Here's your local news at a glance for Wednesday, the 28th of May.
Good morning, Moorhead.
Great Plains Food Bank lost about $1.3 million in funding and food earlier this year and changed where it gets fresh produce and meat (federal cuts caused the loss).
The food bank is now watching lawmakers closely (a vote on a budget bill may cut programs like its senior food box program that served over 800 seniors in 2024).
A Fargo man, Tyreik Taylor-Roberts, was sentenced Tuesday to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter for shooting 25-year-old Jalab Moses during an argument in an apartment parking lot south of NDSU—he will also serve 5 years of probation following his release.
Proposed federal cuts to SNAP and TEFAP add to the funding loss that left the Great Plains Food Bank short, after it lost about $1.3 million and summer deliveries that helped buy food from local farmers.
The bank, which serves Clay County and 151,000 people in North Dakota (one-third of whom are children), now relies on private donations to meet growing needs.
