CRIME NEWS

  • A Barnesville man is in jail on burglary charges after investigators recovered $65,000 in stolen property and three guns near Pelican Lake—law enforcement agencies including the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office, Clay County Sheriff’s Office, and Fargo Police helped with the search.  KVRR

CULTURE NEWS

  • Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead hosted an event Tuesday at 6:30 where Jerry Gale, founder of the Minnesota chapter of Christians Against Christian Nationalism, spoke about concerns over Christian nationalism—Trinity Pastor Matt Peterson said the event was meant to educate and calm community fears. The discussion followed concerns raised by church members and aimed to clarify how faith can be part of politics without excluding other views.  KVRR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Minnesota Legislature passed small changes to the paid family leave program and sick time law by lowering the payroll tax from 1.2% to 1.1% and shortening the documentation requirement to two days—steps that kept most aspects of the laws intact. The paid family leave law allows workers up to 12 weeks of leave for family or medical needs and requires six sick days a year for full-time employees.  KVRR
  • State lawmakers averted a government shutdown by passing the final state budget in a special session that ended early Tuesday morning—just before the 7 a.m. deadline. Moorhead’s State Senator Rob Kupec said Senate negotiations made good progress and that local benefits were part of the discussion.  KVRR

HEALTH NEWS

  • Hospice of the Red River Valley rebranded as HIA Hospice — meaning Hearts In Action — to mark its 44 years of care and new expanded services, and its Fargo location will add Heather’s House, the first freestanding inpatient hospice house that gives families a break. The nonprofit will open the facility soon.  KVRR
