COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Loki, who was returned by several potential pet parents, was finally adopted by volunteer Heather Mitchell and her husband—making him a success story in Diamond in the Ruff’s Paws for Recovery program which partners with Sanford Health to keep pets with their owners until they recover stability. The program helps preserve the bond between pets and owners in our region.  KVRR

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Duane’s House of Pizza has moved to its new location on South University Drive inside the Bloc Apartments after its old building was torn down for new apartments. The restaurant now serves its long-time customers from a space that fits 40 more guests—its new party room holds 30 to 40 people.  KVRR
  • Business and government leaders are meeting at the Midwest Technology Summit hosted by the Fargo Moorhead West Fargo Chamber of Commerce—speakers from Digital Plains, Northstar Technology Group, Onsharp, and Representative Julie Fedorchak stressed the need for more power and safeguards to keep AI technology secure from misuse.  KVRR

CRIME NEWS

  • Fargo man Francis Ochiti, convicted in May for shooting at his brother through a window on October 19 in Moorhead, was sentenced to nearly 16 years in prison—police recovered a handgun during the search warrant days after his arrest, and his brother was unharmed.  KVRR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Cass County Sheriff Jesse Jahner said he has been trying for two years to raise the inmate housing rate from $85 to $120 and is frustrated with Fargo over a new jail contract that holds inmates arrested by Fargo police—he cited property storage issues from extra items brought in during arrests. Fargo City Administrator Michael Redlinger said Fargo will accept the new rate and work with county officials to resolve these issues.  KVRR
  • The ACLU said Flock cameras may share license plate data with law enforcement across states without a warrant, raising privacy concerns as officials in Moorhead, Fargo, and West Fargo use the system. Sheriff Jesse Jahner said the cameras delete vehicle data after 30 days while plans to expand the system continue—prompting calls for more transparency.  KVRR

SPORTS NEWS

  • Fargo South High's Blaize Shiek, who danced at NDSU, joined the Minnesota Vikings cheerleading team for the 2025-26 season after announcing his addition in May. His in-game debut on August 9 against the Houston Texans drew social media backlash and local support—Vikings management said no season ticket cancellations have occurred.  KVRR
