- ➤ After 16 years in business, Jazzy & Mumbos Animal Aid Thrift Store in Moorhead is closing because the lease is finished and high leasing costs meant almost all donated funds went to lease payments, so owners are selling fixtures and will clear the store by October 25 with the lease ending on October 31. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ At the Minnesota State Fair, Moorhead High School marching band performed in the daily parade on Friday, August 22 at 2:00 p.m.—the parade ran a 14-block route starting near the Haunted House. KVRR
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Minnesota State Moorhead reports record enrollment for first-year students as numbers rise from 590 last year to a projected 774 this fall—prompting the university to open extra floors and dining halls in preparation. The update also shows growth in international and graduate students aided by the successful Moorhead Scholars program. KVRR
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Moorhead City Council voted unanimously to lift the pause on its aerial spraying policy which allows spraying for mosquitoes if West Nile virus is detected using lower pesticide levels—this policy has been applied in Cass County but not Clay County and was last used in 2020. City staff will research non-toxic mosquito options with any new measures expected in 2026 as trap counts in Moorhead remain three times higher than in Fargo. KVRR
