CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Moorhead police responded to a domestic assault call on August 11 at an apartment on the 2400 block of Third Avenue North where officers were shot at while trying to enter; one hour later, SWAT rescued two children and fatally shot two men—Nathan and Lucas Heiberg. Three officers are on leave as the investigation continues. KVRR
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Today, as school starts, Sanford’s Safe Kids coordinator Katie Heck urged families to review safe routes for crossing streets while Fargo Police warned drivers to give extra space and enforce a $250 fine for passing school buses with stop signs out—more officers will be near schools to keep students safe. KVRR
- ➤ Moorhead Area Public School District has launched Vote152.org to inform voters about the upcoming November 4 referendum after a capital projects levy was rejected last November. The ballot will ask for an operating levy of $575 per pupil and a capital projects levy that combined will raise $5.87 million per year for ten years—causing a nearly $24 monthly tax increase for a $250,000 homeowner, with early voting beginning September 19.
